"Legalize it across the board," said the "Lucy" actor well known for his deep, mellow voice.

This topic may be hotly debated, but for the 77-year-old Oscar winner, there is no question. Freeman has joined the fight for federal marijuana reform, and he is not afraid of speaking out about it.

Freeman said that the legalization movement on marijuana hinges on one fact that many who oppose it have failed to grasp.

"Now, the thrust is understanding that alcohol has no real medicinal use," he told The Daily Beast. "Maybe if you have one drink it will quiet you down, but two or three and you are f--."

The movement on marijuana was called by the actor as "a long time coming." He added that comparing the drug's effects to alcohol use will help the legalization get "longer legs."

Since 2008, Freeman has become an advocate of the drug's medicinal use after shattering his left shoulder, arm, and elbow in a car accident, according to TIME. And while he still has not regained the full use of his left hand and the pain remains, he realized that marijuana effectively alleviates the pain. Since then, he has been an outspoken advocate of its legalization.

According to the "5 Flights Up" actor, his first wife initially introduced him to marijuana.

"How do I take it? However it comes! I'll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it," he said.

Apart from pushing for the medical benefits of marijuana, Freeman also did not forget to point out that the negative effects of pot are rare.

"Marijuana has many useful uses," according to "The Shawshank Redemption" star. "I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm, and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana. They are talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they have discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life."

Freeman is not the only actor in Hollywood sharing his views on the legalization of marijuana. Echoing the same sentiments are other celebrities such as Sting, Zach Galifianakis, and Susan Sarandon, all of whom believe that the drug should be legalized in the United States, as reported news.com.au.
