Mr. Griffin was the one who filed for divorce in Illinois Wednesday stating that the reason for the divorce is "irreconcilable differences."

The couple has been married for 11 years.

Mrs. Dias Griffin, founder of Aragon Global Management, released a public statement saying she was surprised by Mr. Griffin's decision.

According to a source, Mrs. Dias Griffin was "blindsided" by the events.

The divorce came after Mrs. Dias Griffin reportedly took their three children to London for a vacation.

Her act caused Mr. Griffin to be acrimonious.

Mrs. Dias Griffin hired a top divorce lawyer, Robert S. Cohen, who said in a statement that Mr. Giffin filed the divorce papers without notifiying Mrs. Dias Griffin or him.

He said this is just a strategy because he knows that since Mrs. Dias Griffin is on vacation with their children, she would not be able to respond immediately.

"Anne's highest priority remains her family, especially the well-being of her children," said Cohen.

According to another source from Page Six, the couple has been trying to negiotiate an agreement for months but could not reach a conclusion.

If the divorce would push through, Mr. Griffin is expected to lose a big chunk from his more than US$ 5.5 billion fortune.

One of Mr. Griffin's attorneys said that the issue is a "personal matter" and the family is asking for "privacy as they work through this process."

However, considering the big names involved in this divorce, it is really expected to attract the public's attention.

According to another source, the divorce "could be one of the biggest divorce cases to go to litigation in U.S. history."
