Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones Shares Cancer Battle Story for ‘World Head and Neck Cancer Day’

Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones spoke at the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies sharing about the actor's journey through battling cancer.

The 69-year old actor was invited to speak for the opening ceremony of the event in lieu to July 27 being declared as 'World Head and Neck Cancer Day'.

Michael Douglas, who has been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer in 2010 after being misdiagnosed thrice with tongue cancer, shared his experiences openly and stated that he supports the event wholeheartedly.

He was treated in New York for his disease, something the actor was glad about since he was able to go home throughout the whole process.

The 'And So It Goes' actor has been cancer-free since 2011. He said, ''In every sense of the word. I'm very fortunate to be here today.''

Michael Douglas thanked the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for being in their assistance through every stage of his battle with the life-threatening disease.

The actor also came to said convention with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones who also spoke to support her husband. The couple is back together after their temporary separation last year.

The actress, 44, shared her sentiments and support for her husband's words during the event, also shedding light on how it had been during Michael Douglas' battle.

Catherine Zeta-Jones emphasized on how happy she was to be there with her husband. She also shared her feelings of disappointment when the actor was misdiagnosed several times since treatment for tongue and throat cancers are treated in different manners.

"I was a mess. I'll be quite frank, I was a mess," the actress said during her speech, describing how she had been when her husband was discovered to be ill.

During the seven-week treatment which included chemotherapy, the actor lost 40 pounds and only felt worse until finally, he became well again. He attributed his current state of wellness to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's extensive cancer research and treatment.
