Paul Millsap Included in USA Basketball Lineup

U.S. Basketball officials have included Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap in their lineup for the national team, which suffered setbacks last week with the withdrawal of two key players.

The addition of Millsap to the team increases the senior players in the camp to 19, under the guidance of coach Mike Krzyzerski.

"Paul has prior experience at the National Team level having participated in the 2009 National Team mini-camp and offers us veteran inside player who possesses attributes that can be beneficial for us," said Jerry Colangelo, chairman of USA Basketball,  according to USA Basketball.

After his first good season in the Atlanta Hawks, Millsap will follow in the footsteps of Andre Drummond, DeMarcus Cousins and Kenneth Faried. The mentioned players took advantage of withdrawals of high-profile players to receive a spot in the official 12-man roster. The team will appear in behalf of the United States at the launch of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain in August.

Known to be capable of playing multiple positions, Millsap said he was very excited to join the US Men's National Team roster.

"I look forward to practicing with and competing against some of the NBA's best for the honor of representing our country in Spain," he added.

Kevin Durant  was intended to be joined by LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, and Kevin Love in a high-powered Team USA frontcourt. Griffin and Love begged off last week citing personal reasons.

"He really wanted to play. He was truly remorseful about it. But the circumstances just don't allow it," said Colangelo, regarding Love's withdrawal.

Millsap will join Gordon Hayward, Chandler Parsons and Hawks teammate Kyle Korver in a faction of flexible swingmen with long-shooting capabilities trying to play their way into the final team list.
