Steven Gerrard, captain of the English Premier League club Liverpool, bade his fans farewell as he played his last game in Anfield yesterday, according to ESPN.

Steven Gerrard revealed that he felt "devastated" ending his Anfield career as he played his final game with Liverpool, as his fans watched on. Though Liverpool lost to Crystal Place with a score of 1-3, with Puncheon, Zaha and Murray scoring the whole three points, the game was entirely dedicated to Liverpool's captain and there was not a dry eye among the audience.

Steven Gerrard will head to United States to play for the LA Galaxy by the end of the season. The former Liverpool captain expressed his gratitude to everyone and stated that it felt very strange.

He further added that this move was a dreaded moment because he will definitely miss it.

"I loved every minute of it and I'm absolutely devastated I'll never play in front of these supporters again," said Steven Gerrard.

He thanked everyone who aided him in his stay in Liverpool for the past 17 years. Steven Gerrard also acknowledged his team mates, both past and present, for promoting his growth as a player.

Gerrard's last dedication of gratitude was for the fans, who emphasized that even though he played in front of so many supporters worldwide, the homebase fans were still the best.

The whole day was celebrated remembering Steven Gerrard's greatest moments in his career in Liverpool.

The pre-match playlist, which consisted of The Stranglers, R.E.M. and Echo and the Bunnymen blaring out of the speakers, highlighted the special event.

Two mosaics were formed in the crowd honoring Steven Gerrard, "SG 8" was spelled in the Kop and "Captain" in the Lower Centenary Stand.

The celebratory send-off of Steven Gerrard's departure was indeed memorable and it depicted a player who was down-to-earth and irreplaceable.

Steven Gerrard finished his speech by stating that the club is in good hands because of a good manager and revealed that there will be new sign-ups for the next few weeks.
