Beatles member George Harrison's electric guitar was sold at $490,000 to the highest bidder at Julien's Auctions in New York on Saturday. Harrison borrowed the guitar, a Maton Mastersound MS-500 in 1963 from the Barratt's Music Store in Manchester, England while the guitar was in repair.

Harrison liked the guitar so much he kept it for a while. He played this guitar on stage several times in England and in Channel Islands in the summer of 1963, when Beatlemania was just kicking in.

Julien's Auctions said that this iconic piece of instrument was previously on display in a British Museum in Liverpool loaned by a collector. "Even the new owner may decide to lend it back to them."

Amid hundreds of possessions once owned by rock 'n' roll's biggest stars, this maple flame guitar that the quiet Beatle used even fetched more than Elvis Presley state-of-the art tour bus which was valued at $100,000. Elvis bought this bus for his back-up band in 1976, the year before he died. This bus is fully furnished and road ready.  At Julien's Auction, there is always a worldwide clamor for anything Elvis has owned.

Even though Harrison's guitar is the top lot, the price of Elvis' stuff continue to go higher and higher due to its dwindling supply. According to Julien's Auctions, people often want to get in and be part of the act.

Other items sold at Julien's Auctions was the so-called 'penguin' suit that Elvis Presley wore on stage in Las Vegas in 1975 that sold at nearly $122,000. The rock 'n' roll king's marriage certificate from his 1967 wedding to Priscilla Presley was sold for over $40,000.

Other rock n' roll sales were a vest worn by Jimi Hendrix that sold for over $59,000 and a tank top worn by Madonna at $25,000
