Famke Janssen: ‘Hemlock Groove’ Gives her Nightmares

Despite her role as a villain in 'Hemlock Grove', Famke Janssen claims that the show wasn't an easy one for her to do, also admitting that it gave her nightmares.

The Dutch actress claims that she isn't in the least bit comfortable around blood, fake or real, describing herself 'squeamish' and the thought that every series in 'Hemlock Grove' was filled with gory and bloody scenes didn't help at all.

"If I have to go to a hospital to get blood taken, it's a real negotiation," the actress said. "I'm not a fan of it. I'm the antithesis of Eli, who would probably love to wake up in a puddle of blood, and then drink it."

'Hemlock Grove' is a Netflix series created by Eli Roth shot in and around Toronto, Canada. The story revolves around a fictional town in Pennsylvania where vampires, werewolves and other creatures exist. The Emmy-nominated series lives up to its creator's genre - blood, gore and more blood.

Although Famke Janssen says that she can't stand blood and that she isn't and couldn't be what her role is in the drama and other movies she's starred in as the villain, she is said to be what made the drama scarier.

In the series, the 48-year old actress plays the role of Olivia Godfrey, the ageless and conniving woman who is considered the matriarch of an evil clan in 'Hemlock Grove' who does everything, including the sacrifice of her children and lover, just to get what she wants.

It is ironic how the actress plays the role of an Umpir, a kind of vampire, but can't stand blood. On set, the actress is said to divert her gaze whenever she has to walk around corpse dummies and doesn't watch when the gory parts of the drama are being aired.

"I was really getting nauseous just from the idea of all of it," Famke said laughing.

'Hemlock Grove Season 2' is now available for online streaming with its first release on July 11 this year on Netflix.
