Los Angeles Lakers did not only keep their top-5 pick but they also landed the no.2 overall pick in this year's draft, overtaking the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers for the spot.

After finishing with the worst record in franchise history, the purple-and-gold will have a golden opportunity to speed up their rebuilding effort by having the luxury to pick the second best talent available at the 2015 NBA Draft.

Prior to Tuesday's Draft Lottery, the Lakers had 12 percent chance to win the first overall pick and 12.6 percent to grab the no.2 overall, according to ESPN. The Knicks and the Sixers had higher odds to win the top spot or hold their position, but it appeared the ping pong ball favored the Lakers this time around.

The Timberwolves, who finished the season with the worst record in the league at 16-66, banked on the 25 percent shot of winning the lottery. With the no.1 overall pick in the bag, the T-Wolves can bring in another top pick alongside 2014 no.1 overall Andrew Wiggins and 2013 no.1 overall pick Anthony Bennett, who were both acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers in last summer's Kevin Love blockbuster deal.

As for the Lakers, they are expected to use their high pick to acquire either Karl-Anthony Towns of the Kentucky Wildcats or Jahill Okafor of the Duke Blue Devils, who are both considered the clear-cut best big men in this draft class.

However, there are also reports that the Lakers have shown interest in another Wildcats standout Willie-Cauley Stein and Congolese combo guard Emmanuel Mudiay.

It's going to be a very hectic offseason for the Lakers, as they try to return to the postseason after missing in action in the playoffs for two consecutive seasons. There's still a lot of job to be done, but general manager Mitch Kupchack and his front office team will have a number of options with their latest victory at the draft lottery.
