The photos and videos that users can upload to the service can be in full resolution, or 16-megapixels or 1080p in size, the report added. The new offering comes with a built-in photo organizers which will make the stored photos easier to find.

"We wanted to do better. Google Photos gives you a single, private place to keep a lifetime of memories, and access them from any device. They're automatically backed up and synced, so you can have peace of mind that your photos are safe, and available across all your devices," Google's blog entry about the new offering stated.

The new service competes with Apple's iCloud. While Apple has a free storage as well, it only allows 5 GB worth of photos for users, but a user can pay a premium fee for additional storage.

The new service also has a built- in photo editing feature, which allows users to compose collages. The photos and videos can be shared as well either in Hangouts, Twitter or WhatsApp.

"With this launch, we've made a lot of progress towards eliminating many of the frustrations involved in storing, editing and sharing your memories. But we have a lot more in store-so as you keep snapping photos and capturing videos, we'll keep working on making them even easier to store, share and bring to life," the blog added.

According to Google Inc.'s financial table, the company posted revenues of $15.42 billion for the quarter ending March 31, 2014. The revenue is a 19 percent increase from the same period last year.

Google Inc. has several services including its social media network platform Google+ which tries to compete with other platforms such as Facebook.

Google also has audio services on its cloud platform, which enable users to upload professional audio files. The company's audio services are an addition to the growing audio platform market, which includes the likes of London-based  Audioboom (LSE: BOOM).

Audioboom is a social media site that allows users to listen to, record and share sound files. It is very popular among podcasters, journalists, radio personalities and teachers.

The company's key content partners include BBC Radio, Sky Sports and British actor and comedian Russell Brand.
