Was Jon Stewart Right To Slam Caitlyn Jenner Story As Covered By The Media?

The big reveal of Caitlyn Jenner engrossed many media networks, which praised her transition into a woman. However, Jon Stewart called out to the media for focusing on the "woman" aspect of Caitlyn.

From the very beginning until the big reveal with Vanity Fair, the transition of Bruce Jenner to Caitlyn Jenner has been largely scrutinized by the media. Jon Stewart, host of "The Daily Show," scrutinized on something else: how the media has been focusing on the femininity of Caitlyn. TIME reported how the news anchor pointed out how the media centered on her figure, what she wore, or what she looked like, just like how the media focuses on the same things when talking to women.

In fact, during his show, Jon Stewart continued to play clips of different media outlets showing how the former Olympian transformed, comparing her to other celebrities. The Hollywood Reporter quoted the anchor about how the media compliments the father of Kendall and Kylie Jenner at the expense of other women, including her children and her ex-wife. He sarcastically added how coming out at 65, the reality star only has two more years before she becomes invisible to the public eye.

The way that Jon Stewart puts it may seem harsh, but this is the reality that women are facing today. Mild sexism in the media has been rampant on promotional interviews and red carpet premieres, but celebrities are starting to fight back. Even male celebrities are starting to become aware of this, defending women any way they can.

Jon Stewart is one of those men. The Washington Post highlighted the moment when Stewart pointed out how as a man, the media could talk about his athleticism or his business acumen, and now that he is a woman, all they care about now is her looks.

Jon Stewart concludes the segment by welcoming Caitlyn as a woman in America, but he might as well would have welcomed her to a life of criticism. This is not just limited to America, since the world pretty much sees women and transgender people the same way.
