The conventional square shaped Blackberry phone might soon be a thing of past, with the launch of BlackBerry Passport phone "Oslo." Many images of the smartphone were recently leaked, showcasing its compact plastic frame and round edges.

BlackBerry Oslo is being anticipated as the refreshed version of BlackBerry Passport phone, with curvier edges and the ease to fit the pockets, according to Techgiri. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 801 processor along with a 2.2 GHz MSM8974 chipset and 3 GB of RAM. It also consists of a beveled rubber back and a 13 mega pixel redesigned back camera, as per Engadget.

There is still no confirmation about the screen resolution of this phone yet but it does look like Oslo will be equipped with a back-up fingerprint reader at its back. One of its upcoming competitors - LG G5, which is a much anticipated phone supposedly has a retina scanner. So the fingerprint reader in Oslo seems outdated already. It will also sport a battery capacity of 3,450 mAh, and just by looking at the leaked image more closely, it was also noticed that the device features a metal frame.

Being a "special edition" of the BlackBerry Passport phone, Oslo is expected to boast an amalgamation of silver plastic and a steel frame. The steel frame will be recolored and rubberized in order to provide that extra firm grip.

According to reports, BlackBerry Oslo will run the final design and build of APAC and EMEA markets which are currently running on BlackBerry 10.3.2 as their operating system. This will be done keeping in mind the huge demand for BlackBerry Passport in the market. It is expected that the new curvy design will appeal to the fashion savvy people, as in the past, Blackberry has been accused of designing phones that are too clinical.

It looks like Oslo will be sporting the exact same specs as seen in the original BlackBerry Passport, except for the hardware design. Since the original BlackBerry Passport was priced at $650 on its February launch, Oslo is also expected to fall in the same price range.

The official word on the smartphone's price and specs is still awaited.
