The death of a Michigan teen remains something of a mystery after her body was found in a ditch by joggers on the night of July 24.

14-year-old April Millsap's body was found near the Macomb Orchard Trail with her dog, Penny, sitting beside the dead body. They were out for a walk that day and April did not return.

FBI, together with the local police, executed a search around the town of Armada but have not yet released information on how the search went. However, authorities are reportedly zeroing in on the young girl's possible killer.

According to David Porter, a spokesman for the FBI Detroit field office, a search warrant has been issued but no significant arrests have been made.

He added that part of the search involved checking Millsap's phone records - both text logs and call logs.

There were speculations that Millsap had been kidnapped after her boyfriend received a text from her phone saying: "OMG.... I think I'm being kidnapped."

Officials believe that it is unlikely the message came from April herself.

Investigators said how the teen was killed is a crucial part of their investigation and declared her death to be a homicide. Information regarding the manner in which Millsap was killed has not yet been revealed.

Reportedly, neither of the teen's relatives or boyfriend appear to be suspects in the murder, but police have produced a sketch of a possible suspect who was seen in the area around the time April was killed.

Witnesses reported seeing a blue and white motorcycle around the park where the girl's dead body was found. These tips led authorities to the house of James Vancallis.

Vancallis, 66, a registered sex offender, was imprisoned after sexually abusing a 13-year-old child. Authorities have not yet released an official statement pointing to Vancallis as a primary suspect.

April Millsap's funeral will be held on Friday. It is to be funded by the GoFundMe page, initiated by a family friend, which raised US$11,700 for the teen's burial expenses.
