Man Mistakenly Killed Two Young Girls as Demons

A 28-year-old man from Ohio admitted to killing two young girls through random shooting in a street in 2008 and murdering his fiancée by slitting her throat in 2011.

Investigators had no idea that Kevin Sweat, the killer, shot dead 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker and 13-year-old Taylor Paschal-Placker in 2008 until the murderer was questioned over the brutal murder of his fiancée, Ashley Taylor, 23.

Police were able to link all the three cases pointing to only one murderer.

On Thursday, Sweat pleaded guilty to all three counts of first-degree murder after prosecutors dropped plans to seek the death penalty in return for the murderer's agreeing to waive his right to a jury trial.

Prosecutors were able to get hold of a videotaped interview with Sweat in which he said that he had nothing to do with the deaths of the girls but he shot them because he saw monsters coming right at him.

"I see demons, vampires, monsters, demons, whatever. I do have some problems. I was scared. They were still coming at me, so I shot them," Sweat said.

A hearing was conducted on Thursday and Sweat was found barely audible as he responded to the judge's questions.

According to Sweat's attorney, his client was not mentally competent when his Miranda rights were waived before participating in an interview.

Michael Taylor, Ashley's father, said that acknowledgment of guilt on the part of the murderer is part of their healing process.

Ashley's mother added that with their son's confession they can get this burden off their shoulders.

Peter Placker, grandfather of Taylor Paschal-Placker, said that finally he knew who was responsible for the death of her granddaughter, but added there will be no closure until the killer is punished.

No sentence hearing was set, but Sweat will be facing life imprisonment, which could either be with or without parole.
