Egon, be gone! Peter, see ya later! Because the Ghostbusters team is going to be taken over by women.

Paul Feig, director of the blockbuster hit "Bridesmaid", is said to have met with Sony Pictures to produce a reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise which consists of main characters that are all females.

Although an agreement has yet to be put on paper, Feig has met with the producing studio at least once regarding reviving the old cult classic.

"Ghostbusters 3" will be worked on from scratch and will have no narrative connection to the first two movies.

Etan Cohen, screenwriter for "Men in Black 3" was brought on board in 2012 to do a redraft of "Ghostbusters 3", from an initial script authored by "The Office" writers, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, written in 2008.

Initially, Ivan Reitman, director of the first two Ghostbusters movies, was supposed to direct the third installment. However, Reitman dropped out of the project in March of this year.

Cast for the new movie has yet to be agreed upon, but people who have been speculating about the movie all believe that the actresses who will be chosen are most likely those who thrive in the comedy genre - which actually makes Feig the perfect director to take over the helm.

In an industry where men still dominate, Feig has been somewhat of an advocate for female talent and, having a powerful female lead of ghost-busting heroes might just further recognition and equality for women in Hollywood.

Feig is currently working with "Bridesmaid" actress Melissa McCarthy on her latest comedy flick, "Spy". The movie is scheduled to be released on Memorial Day 2015. It remains to be seen whether or not "Ghostbusters 3" will be Feig's next project after "Spy".

Sony Pictures has yet to release a comment regarding the possibility of a new Ghostbusters flick.
