After a short TV gig, Marisa Tomei is back, and this time, she will be joining the diverse cast of "Empire."

Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei will be among the varied cast of the hit show "Empire," where she will play a lesbian billionaire hip-hop fan. Zee News reported that in the second season, the actress will play a fairly distinct character named Mimi Whiteman, a venture capitalist who is a lover of many things, including high-end fashion, social trends, hip-hop, and beautiful women.

Of course, despite the fact that no word is out on whether Tomei's character will to head-to-head with Cookie as reported by Us Magazine, it can be easily presumed that she will play a big part in getting caught up the drama that is the Lyon family, given that she is set to appear in several episodes of the show. Perhaps, she might even get a recurring role if the audience clamors for it.

Marisa Tomei was last connected to the TV series "Rescue Me," which has been quite a while back. She won her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "My Cousin Vinny" back in 1902.

A screen grab off the official Twitter account of "Empire" welcoming the actress is shown by the Daily Mail UK, showing the full support of the entire show. Tomei is the latest a-list actor to join the growing cast of "Empire," which now includes Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz, all showing up for the second season of the series. Just last season, featured guests of the show included Naomi Campbell, Snoop Dogg, Jennifer Hudson, Gladys Knight, and Courtney Love.

"Empire" is one of the breakthrough TV shows to enter the small screen. The cast list is entirely promising, and the potential growth for this show is really huge. Hopefully, "Empire" carries on to be one of the best shows on TV, if not the best show for 2015.
