Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan said he wants his son Jaycee Chan to spend six months in prison every year.

"Every year, he should stay in prison for half a year," Asian Fanatics quoted Jackie as the action star appeared on China's variety show "Day Day Up."

Apparently, Jackie was so pleased with the sudden turnaround in Jaycee's attitude that he quipped about considering an annual detention for his son. The older Chan noted how Jaycee changed his ways after spending six months in jail, from returning his shoes to their proper place to putting away the dishes after eating. He further remarked that his son is now preoccupied with things he has not done in the past years, like reading books and writing songs.

On February 15, Jaycee was released from prison after serving time for letting people use marijuana in his apartment. He was arrested and tested positive, along with Taiwanese actor Ko Kai and several others. More than 100 grams of marijuana were found in Jaycee's apartment in Beijing, CBC reported.

At a press conference, he bowed before the cameras and asked for public apology. The repentant younger Chan also stated that he is ashamed and is "rededicating" himself to his family and his career.

"I made mistakes, I will remember this lesson. I won't commit mistakes again in the future. . . I'm genuinely sorry," Jaycee expressed in remorse, as quoted by Daily Mail.

Jackie attributed his son's past behavior to being born in a privileged family and not knowing the difficulties of poverty. He also pointed out that he felt Jaycee already got his punishment and has not scolded his son about the incident since. For Jackie, time in prison instilled in Jaycee fear and respect for his father.

Prior to his son's arrest, Jackie was already an anti-drug ambassador of China and deputy to the mainland legislature's core consultative body. He and several narcotics police officers guested on "Day Day Up" to campaign for drug control. He also took the opportunity to thank the public safety administration for the valuable lesson that his son learned.
