The iconic Tiger Woods had to withdraw from Bridgestone International's final round because of a back pain injury.

The back injury reportedly happened after Woods swung his second hole shot, when he attempted to awkwardly hit the ball.

Woods confirmed the incident "happened on the second hole," which he said made him "fall back into the bunker." He also said that after the shot, he experienced continued spasms.

Woods did not perform well, leaving poor shots throughout the rounds. He left the game with his caddie Joe LaCava after the ninth hole.

LaCava also confirmed to PGAtour that Woods' back has been hurting all day.

Brian Wacker from PGA posted in Twitter, "Tiger is a WD at @wgc_bridgestone. Back has been hurting all day says caddie. Stay tuned."

LaCava reportedly drove the golf champ straight to his car where he took off his shoes to relieve the pain.

Woods told reporters it was his whole lower back that was aching and he had no idea what actually happened.

It is still uncertain whether Woods will be joining his competitors in the week's PGA Championship at the Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.

Woods entered the week's game in the hopes of getting back in the game. Woods had a back surgery on March 31 for a pinched nerve. He rested for two months before joining in again.

He missed the U.S. Open and the Masters before his first competition after the surgery, Quickens Loans National, on June 26. Woods already played three games after the surgery.

Woods said Wednesday that his last surgery was the most challenging one yet.

"There is no comparison between a knee and a back," he said. "This thing is just way different. It's way more debilitating than I thought."
