Success is the best revenge.

Voluptuous actress Christina Hendricks shared with the "Guardian" that she took on the role of Joan Holloway despite her talent agency's recommendation not to join the cast of "Mad Men".

And of course, she was right and they were very wrong, because five Emmy nominations later, the show has been hailed as one of the best TV dramas of all time and Hendricks has warranted much fame because of it.

Hendricks shared that her former agency thought that the show was never going to take off because it was "a period piece". She narrated that they dropped her because of her insistence, despite her management saying that they weren't going to earn money from the show.

Before "Mad Men", Hendricks was a relatively unknown talent who starred on shows that were projected to take off, but never did. Her previous projects included "Undressed", "The Court", "Firefly" and "Kevin Hill".

She fell in love with the initial script of "Mad Men" and decided to go for it. "Why not do the one you're in love with and take a chance on that?" she shared.

Her gamble paid off, both personally and professionally. In the seven years she has worked on "Mad Men", she has become a household name, a symbol of sexuality and femininity and, a Hollywood A-lister. She also met her husband, actor Geoffery Arend, through her "Mad Men" co-star, Vincent Kartheiser.

Hendricks currently stars in the recently-released movie "God's Pocket", wherein she co-stars with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

She shared that Hoffman was a friend and, his death at the age of 46 seemed unreal. She shared that deaths feel final, but with Hoffman, she always felt that she was going to see him again, adding "I feel lucky to have gotten to work with him. I feel grateful and I feel sad."
