Teen Sensation Nick Kyrgios Wins First ATP World Tour Masters Match

Australian teen sensation Nick Kyrgios won his first career ATP World Tour Masters match against Colombian Santiago Giraldo in the opening day of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada on Tuesday.

Marking his first appearance since Wimbledon, the 19-year-old looked a bit rusty in the early going, but managed to recover in time for a 7(7)-6(3) 7-5 victory over Giraldo.

In the first set, Giraldo forced Kyrgios tie-break, but the Australian raced ahead seven points to three.

Kyrgios still looks a bit tight in the second set, allowing Giraldo tied the match at five. Kyrgios managed to hold serve to run away with the victory.

Kyrgios faces two-time Grand Slam champion and eighth seed Andy Murray in the second round.

"I'm definitely going to go into the match feeling I've got a chance ... so I have just got to be ready for it," Kyrgios said.

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic recently had a practice hit-out with Kyrgios and was quite impressed especially with his powerful serves. "U were firing those serves well! Save some power for the tourney," Djokovic wrote over Twitter.

Djokovic and Kyrgios are on the same section of the tournament and if all things go well between the two, they will eventually meet at the quarterfinals.

Rafael Nadal wasn't able to defend his crown in Montreal due to a wrist injury he sustained while practicing at his home in the Mallorca Islands.

Nadal's latest test results suggest that the Spaniard was on his way to recovery following a scan and clinical evaluation. He will still have tests from time to time however and maybe able to defend his U.S. Open crown in Flushing Meadows slated Aug. 25.
