According to a report by English site Metro, the Red Devils have revived hopes of bringing back the former Manchester United star. Speculations rose when reports surfaced that Real Madrid is open to selling. The return to Old Trafford has been a dream at the back of the minds of many club fans almost as soon as Ronaldo left the team back in 2009.

The offer that is reportedly being made for Ronaldo's return amounts to £14milllion a season. If this is true, it would mean that Ronaldo can lay claim to being the team's highest paid player in history.

In September last year, the Mirror reported that Real Madrid's former president Ramon Calderon claimed that Ronaldo has become increasingly unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu. His statement has fuelled reports of a possible return to Manchester United. Those reports have been revived this summer after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been replaced by Rafa Benitez.

Apart from Ronaldo, Metro states that United also have their eye on Welsh striker Gareth Bale. Bale and Ronaldo form two-thirds of Real Madrid's attacking triumvirate which is completed by Karim Benzema.

Benzema for one, is confirmed to be staying at the Bernabeu. Sky Sports reports that his agent has spoken up about the current transfer window. He said that the French striker will be staying with Real Madrid. Benzema had previously been linked to a move to English side Arsenal. However, both Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Benzema's agent have now shut down those reports.

Despite the numerous reports surrounding his future, Ronaldo is under contract with Real Madrid until the 2018 season. Upon signing his renewal back in 2013, Ronaldo declared his commitment to the club and expressed his desire to end his career with the legendary club.
