It appears Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou and Chinese singer Harlem Yu are off to a pretty amusing friendship as their rivalry antics continue in the "The Voice of China." In the latest episode, the veteran coach reportedly took a swipe at the show's youngest mentor's English skills while both were persuading a contestant to choose one over the other.

"Jay, can you speak English?" Yu taunted the singer-actor. The 53-year-old coach swiftly followed through with "Oh you can't? Then don't bite off more than you can chew" when he caught Chou in silence. Refusing to accept the burn, Chou jokingly kept an unimpressed look on his face and slightly furrowed his eyebrows. Without hesitation, the 36-year-old singer-actor laid out his cards on Yu by coolly reminding him that he already starred in two major Hollywood movies, "The Green Hornet" in 2011 with Seth Rogen and "Now You See Me: The Second Act" in 2016 with Daniel Radcliffe.

The two coaches were trying to win the nod of a 19-year-old contestant whose performance also showcased his skills in playing musical instruments. Liu Wei-nan, a Chinese-American, also caught the attention of the mentors with his proficiency in English, thus Yu and Chou's duel.

In an earlier episode, Chou reportedly poked fun a Yu's stinginess, revealing that the latter refused to give him tip when he was just a fledgling performer at a restaurant. Yu defended himself and said that he was just being thrifty. To make his point better understood, Yu happily declared during an interview that he handed Chou his rightful RMB 100 when the episode wrapped up. He further quipped that he has thought of giving Chou a red envelope containing RMB 100 bills when they record the next episode to set the record straight.

Chou then advised Liu to keep up the good work in combining English and Chinese pop music but reminded him that "Chinese songs are [still] the coolest."

The rival mentors' banter is expected to continue in the next episodes of "The Voice of China" as they try to downplay each other's shot at a promising contestant to complete their team.
