The saga of speculations surrounding the fate of Argentine midfielder Angel di Maria is about to be concluded. This is what Paris Saint Germain manager Laurent Blanc is saying. He says that his team is close to finalizing a deal with Manchester United to acquire the midfielder's services in the upcoming season.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Blanc has announced that all signs are pointing to di Maria's move to Paris. The French team has reportedly offered only £28.5 million for the midfielder even though Manchester United spent a record amount of £59.7 million when they acquired him from Real Madrid only a year ago.

At the time of the transfer from Real Madrid to Manchester United, di Maria had just come off a successful campaign in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, where his team played in the final against eventual winners Germany. Prior to the World Cup, di Maria was also instrumental in Real Madrid's 10th UEFA Champions League Title which they won in May 2014.

Di Maria was regarded as hot property and Manchester United paid a British record amount for his services. Unfortunately, he failed to settle in at Old Trafford. After just a year with the Red Devils, they are already open to selling him even at a loss.

What went wrong? BBC has offered some insights into the situation. Di Maria's year with United started out as well as could be expected. He scored goals in three of his first four games with the team. However, he had a dry spell from October all the way until January.

During his first 16 games with the team, BBC reports that team manager Louis Van Gaal put him in six different positions on the field. He also suffered a pelvic injury that sidelined him throughout December. Towards the latter end of the season, di Maria appeared to have lost his position in the first team and came in only as a substitute on several occasions. The limited time on the pitch has naturally hindered him from making any impact.

PSG owner Nasser Al Khelaifi and sports director Olivier Letang are reportedly in London trying to finalize the transfer deal. "In the Di Maria case, the whole thing is close to being over, I'm rather positive about it," said Blanc.

Manchester United Ed Woodward is reportedly keen to sell but he is also trying his best to recoup as much as he can from what they spent for the player a year ago.
