Caitlyn Jenner's transition into a woman has turned into a major sports and entertainment fiasco. Not only that, it appears that his fame has proven to be very profitable for an individual who was in possession of a 1984 Olympic torch that he carried back when he was known as the gold medal-winning decathlete, Bruce Jenner.

The torch reportedly fetched the hefty sum of US $24,000, when it was put up for auction last Thursday. According to FOX Sports, the auction was held by Heritage Auctions in Chicago. The piece was among a host of other sports memorabilia that were sold that day.

Jenner won the gold medal for the decathlon in the 1976 Summer Games that were held in Montreal. After his win, he became a household name and became a sought after public speaker and product endorser. By the time the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics rolled in, he was at the peak of his fame. He dropped out of the radar shortly after that when he went into hormone therapy. However, he resurfaced again in 2007 as the patriarch of the now infamous Kardashian-Jenner clan of the reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

The Globe and Mail reports that the 24 inch torch was sold by a certain Bob Lorsch. He reportedly organized the Tahoe leg of the torch relay back in 1984 and he was the one who invited Jenner to participate.

"This torch serves as a wonderful symbol that masculinity and femininity are not mutually exclusive," said Chris Ivy. Ivy is the director of the auction house that sold the souvenir. The torch is the first piece of Jenner sports memorabilia that has been sold since she completed her transition earlier this year.

An anonymous collector form the Midwest reportedly purchased the torch. Despite the hefty price placed on it, Jenner's torch was only one among many other highly-valued memorabilia that exchanged hands that day.

A Brooklyn Atlantics team baseball card from the 1860s reportedly sold for US $179,000. Meanwhile, Chicago Bears player William "Refrigerator" Perry sold his Super Bowl XX ring for a whopping US $203,150.
