A Bloomberg News report on Wednesday stating that 10 apple products were banned from being purchased with public money due to security concerns is untrue.

Apple, the China Central Government Procurement Center, and the Ministry of Finance confirmed Apple never applied to be on a list of energy saving products, which created the confusion, Reuters reports.

Bloomberg was tipped to the report by "government officials familiar with the matter".

The energy saving list is one of many China has to guide procurement. Though Apple's products have energy saving certifications, the company has not provided the required forms and verification to be on the list.

Part of the confusion was fueled by a temporary stop in sales Thursday on the website which was due to price adjustments, according to Apple suppliers in China.

Reuters was told that the price adjustments were routine.

"[The central procurement agency] didn't say once that it had anything to do with national security," an employee for a Beijing based supplier said.

Apple products came back online and can be purchased on the Central Government Procurement Center website.

The false assumption came after China banned Windows 8 in May from being used by government agencies over fears it posed too high of a security risk. The Central Government Procurement Center issued a statement saying all laptops, desktops, and tablets must run a different operating system.

The procurement center had also removed antivirus software makers Kaspersky and Symantec from their approved list.

"When the government stops the procurement of products, it sends a signal to corporates and semi-government bodies," Mark Po, an analyst with Hong Kong based UOB Kay Hian Ltd., said. "The Chinese government wants to make sure that overseas companies shouldn't have too much influence in China."

The ban would not affect consumers, only government officials using the tech for work.
