Shooting of "Downtown Abbey" TV series just wrapped up and many fans all over the world were left disappointed, to say the least. On social media, cast members have posted photos saying goodbye and thanking fans for all their support.

Due to the following the series has made throughout their time on television, many are now wondering whether there will be a movie of the much-loved series in the works.

Julian Fellowes, creator of the series, and Gareth Neame, "Downtown Abbey" executive producer, have left the door open for such possibility on purpose, according to The Guardian. Neame has reportedly not directly addressed if there will be a movie or another series in the future despite the buzz. It appears they are still weighing their options if there is to be another generation of Crawleys.

According to Fellowes, he wouldn't find it shocking if a "Downtown Abbey" movie, or some form of "afterlife" will push through after the show ends.

"It wouldn't surprise me if it had some afterlife because it's been such a strong force. But it's definitely finished on television," Fellowes told the Belfast Telegraph. "That's it."

While Fellowes opinion is on the positive side, the cast has reportedly expressed that they believe it better for the show to go out on top than for it to end as people lose interest.

"I think it's right to stop when people are sorry and not when people are relieved," said Fellowes.

As for Neame, he agrees with Fellowes. Writers ended "Downtown Abbey" Season 6 in the year 1925. In so doing, the story is left with "a lot of rich territory" to reconnoitre if a "Downtown Abbey" movie will happen. As opposed to taking the story through the stock market crash of 1929, this would be a better option, said Carnival Films chief Gareth Neame at the Television Critics Association summer tour Saturday evening, according to Deadline.

"Were we to make a movie," Neame hints, "there is much narrative ahead to be mined." He added that for now, there is only rumors and speculations as to the possibility of a "Downtown Abbey" movie.

"I'm not denying anything; I think a Downton movie could be a wonderful thing. But we don't have a script or plan yet," he said. And fans of the Masterpiece series will cling to the word "yet."

Carnival Films, which is owned by NBCUniversal, announced in March that "Downtown Abbey" Season 6 would be the show's last.

While the cast has seen the last of each other at the set of the TV show, they will still be seeing each other outside of shooting. Beginning in September, the cast still get the chance to enjoy victories at various awards shows since "Downtown Abbey" has become the most highly awarded show on PBS, according to The Inquisitr.

The last episode of the show is set to air on Christmas Day, however there is much hope for a "Downtown Abbey" movie as Julian Fellowes has said he is still considering one, reported The BBC.
