Fans were saying that Los Angeles Lakers point guard D'Angelo Russell committed a "rookie mistake" when he tweeted that Tracy McGrady may be the greatest all time basketball player, according to SB Nation.

They warned that Kobe Bryant will surely be learn about the comment and will create repercussions for the rookie.

Bryant soon responded to Russell with a sleeping face emoji.

When Russell apparently backtracked by saying Kobe "my bad he was nice", Bryant said "all love little bro" and challenged him to shock the world this season."

Bryant listed McGrady as the toughest player he ever faced in a 2013 interview. Nonetheless, Bryant is the more accomplished they compare careers.

While McGrady made it to the All-Stars seven times mainly when he played for the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets, he retired after the 2011-12 season without an NBA title.

On the other hand, Bryant has captured five championships.

Russell later said that Bryant was "my Michael Jordan' and that playing alongside the Lakers great would be the highlight of his life, according to Lakers Nation.

However, many wondered whether Russell made such statement on the thought that Bryant no longer has that big a clout within the Lakers organization and that his opinion no longer carries much weight.

After all, he and Jordan Clarkson have dislodged Bryant from the starting guard positions and the latter may be preparing to play power forward in his farewell season.

The Lakers acquired Russell's services by picking him second overall in the 2015 draft and threw a money wrench on the Philadelphia 76ers' plans on nabbing Russell third overall.

Russell is not the only rookie who found himself in a clumsy situation with Bryant because of a comment.

Larry Nance Jr., who was taken with the 27th overall pick, made a tweet in 2012 calling Bryant a "rapist."

Nance apologized to Bryant and the Lakers and they have since spoken and made peace about the issue.
