TK Records Co-Founder Henry Stone Dies at 93

American record producer Henry Stone, the man behind Ray Charles, James Brown and KC & the Sunshine Band, died on Thursday at the age of 93.

The co-founder of the iconic TK Records died due to natural causes in a hospital in Miami, according to the Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels.

Stone recorded his first artist several years after opening his first recording studio in 1948. The artist, who was a pianist-singer from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, later became known as soul music pioneer Ray Charles.

In 1972, Stone co-founded TK Records with Steve Alaimo. The legendary producer was known for his hit records, including "Get Down Tonight," "That's the Way (I Like It)," "Shake, Shake, Shake (Shake Your Booty)" and "I'm Your Boogie Man" for KC & the Sunshine Band as well as "Ring My Bell" for Anita Ward, according to The Miami Herald.

Then in 1954, Stone and Otis Williams and the Charms released "Heart of Stone," which went on to become an R&B hit. Two years later, he signed James Brown and the Famous Flames and then released "Please, Please, Please," which then took the top spot in the R&B category.

After TK Records declared bankruptcy in 1961, Stone moved on to join other production companies. in 1990, he was behind 2 Live Jews and its novelty act album, "As Kosher as They Wanna Be," a parody that featured Stone's son, actor and songwriter-producer Joseph Stone.

"One of the biggest lessons he taught me was how to listen better and how to live in this moment," Joseph Stone said, according to The Miami Herald. "He had an incredible sense of principle and kindness and understanding.

Stone is survived by his wife, Inez, seven children and 14 grandchildren.
