Nine-year-old Kayla Kosmalski will make her catwalk debut with Ellen DeGeneres's GapKids x ED fashion show in Miami Saturday. One of the eight launch celebrations for the collection, it will be held at the Gap storefront on Lincoln Road.

The campaign aims to celebrate the things that make people different. Kayla, who has Down syndrome, will take the runway to showcase Ellen DeGeneres's new children's clothing line that she has designed for GapKids, People reported. She will be joining 13 other "power girls" to showcase the brand's new duds.

Out of the 13 kids, who will participate in the show, four are differently-abled. "Kayla is just a great little girl. She enjoys the spotlight and the modeling scene, so it was a good fit," said Katie Driscoll, the founder of Changing the Face of Beauty, which is organising the event.

The head of the non-profit organisation advocating equal opportunities for all in advertising and media, said that they were honored to be a part of the effort, adding: "Gap speaks so loudly to young adults and young children, and its imagery is powerful."

Before being picked for the GapKids show, Kayla participated in beauty pageants and most recently joined a dance team. Her mother told that her little girl loved Gap, fashion and getting her hair and makeup done, just like any other nine-year-old.

Kayla's mother added that she loved Taylor Swift and hip hop dancing. "She wants to be famous--she wants to be on TV or be like Taylor Swift, but she did tell me that if she can't be famous she wants to be Mary Poppins," the mother said.

Her parents are of the view that all people with Down syndrome should be treated equally. A law was passed in Kayla's name in the U.S. Congress to allow more financial rights to people with disabilities in February. She met with Vice President Joe Biden to celebrate the passing of the ABLE Act.

Meanwhile, Gap is donating a percentage of proceeds from the GapKids x ED collection to charities around the world. The collection features graphic prints including lightning bolts to represent power and a speech bubble to allow girls to find words of encouragement.
