The Utah Jazz  are looking into acquiring Miami Heat veteran point guard Mario Chalmers after losing starter Dante Exum to injury.

Exum tore his ACL while playing in an exhibition game for Australia and gave the Jazz management reason to ponder about acquiring another point guard to fortify their roster.

The Jazz have Trey Burke, Raul Neto and Bryce Cotton at this position but aren't sure if any of them can step up, according to Deseret News.

Burke is struggling to find his shooting touch and tighten his defense while it may take Neto to adjust to the speed and physicality in the NBA.

Meanwhile, Cotton has yet to prove that his height of 6'1" will not work so much as a disadvantage.

If the Jazz trade for Chalmers, they would have four point guards on the roster and they would have to discard one of them, which would likely be Cotton.

Chalmers can also serve as the veteran that will help mentor the young point guards, Fox Sports noted.

The Heat, who exceeded the luxury tax line by over $5 million and already are repeat offenders, would need to rid  themselves of th one year left on Chalmers' contract, which is valued at $4.3 million.

However the Jazz would probably ask for a deal sweetener on top of Chalmers to agree to help the Heat save money.

The Heat most likely would be asked to send  a future second-round draft pick to the Jazz.

However, after dealing away their draft  picks in earlier trades, those from 2018 would be the earliest picks the Heat could give  up.

Chalmers averaged 8.9 points and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three.

Last season he only shot 40 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from three.

The struggles may be due to the loss of LeBron James, whose presence attracted much defensive efforts from opposing teams that eventually open up shots for Chalmers.
