A man and a teen-aged woman was killed on Sunday night after people in a dark-colored car drove by and open fired at them in front of a house in Lower Ninth Ward. Five more people, including two children aged 2 and 4, were severely wounded.

Grieving relatives surrounding the crime scene identified the dead teener as 16-year-old Jasmine Anderson who was supposed to be returning on Monday to attend her first day of school in ReNew Cultural Arts Academy.

"She had just gone to get a bottle of water and was walking past that house. Now my niece's life is gone behind someone else's foolishness," Anderson's great aunt Lillie Reese said.

Rumors about a planned shooting at the house have been spreading prior to the incident.

The slain man had been identified to live in the house where the shooting occurred.

Meanwhile, an unidentified woman, two children aged 2 and 4, a 37-year-old woman and a 13-year-old teen are currently in critical condition.

Worried relatives say one of the toddlers have been shot in the head after unidentified men shot at the group in Burgundy Street and immediately fled the scene.

Witnesses say that the shooting transpired at around eight in the evening; they say they heard at least 15 gunshots in rapid succession, as several people were in front of the house that night.

According to them, the dark car - probably a Honda Accord - had a Louisiana license commercial plate.

One witness, who refused to be named, described the incident to authorities citing that somebody screamed while music was still playing after the shots were fired.

None of the suspects have been arrested, and the motive for the shooting is still sketchy as investigators are still gathering more information on the incident.
