Celine Dion returns to stage for her first show at the Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas after taking time off for a year to look after her husband suffering from throat cancer.

She temporarily bid her fans farewell last year due to her 73-year-old husband of 20 years Rene Angelil's worsening health condition. In an interview with USA Today, Dion expressed her sentiments over taking a break. "Don't get me wrong, I love singing for people, but I have priorities," she told the news site.

Now, after her successful return to stage Thursday, the Grammy Award winning singer took to Twitter thanking her fans.

"Thank you for all your love. Tonight was not a new day, tonight was not really a new show. Tonight was a new beginning," she tweeted.

Dion spent the year taking care of her husband who happens to also be her manager. She and her three children 14-year-old son Rene Charles and four-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy stayed close by supporting each other.

"My three children and wonderful husband wanted me to be here. I'm trying really hard to show my children that sickness and things happen in life and you cannot be crying and be depressed," Dion told CBC News.

Though her husband and manager was not physically present and watched from their home, Dion's comeback drew hordes of fans once again.

Even as she sang mostly the same songs from her repertoire, Dion confessed that this time she will mean every word in each song she'll perform, the report added.

"To me they'll become different songs. The words will come alive more than ever before," she said.

Dion earlier shared that doctors are unsure how long her husband has given his condition. Angelil and Dion first met way back in 1980 when she was only 12 years old. They married in 1994. Her husband helped steer Dion's career to triumphant success.
