Caroline Wozniacki Wins Opener in Western and Southern Open

Caroline Wozniacki bounced back from an early exit at the Rogers Cup last week, defeating Magdalena Rybarokova, 6-2, 6-3, in the opening day of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The 12th seed Wonziacki came off to a blistering start at the first set as she breaks Slovak Rybarokova's serve twice. Wozniacki continued hammering down the line shots to keep Rybarokova from coming off the net.

The Danish star finally had the chance to break the Slovak at 4-3 and delivered a forehand winner down the line. She eventually held serve to win the match.

Wozniacki has not made the finals of any Grand Slam tournament since 2009 at the U.S. Open when she went up against Kim Clijsters of Belgium and hopes to make it once again.

She will now go up against China's Zhang Shuai on Tuesday.

Wozniacki was engaged to golf star Rory McIlroy in May, who then called off the wedding after invitations have already been sent out.

McIlroy claimed that his game went up when he broke it off with Wozniacki and proved it by winning back-to-back major titles in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the recent PGA Championship.

Wozniacki, on the other hand, seemed to take the engagement roughly, exiting the French Open in just the first round.

After some time for rest and to contemplate on the failed relationship, Wozniacki then went off to compete at Wimbledon in which she had a better performance going to the fourth round before being eliminated by Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova in two sets.

In last week's Rogers Cup, Wozniacki was defeated by Venus Williams in three sets in the quarterfinals 4-6 7-5 7-5.

It seems that Wozniacki is on the up-and-up track and hopes to use this tournament to make her place back into the top 10.
