CBS NBA analyst Jim Spanarkel who was teammates with the late Darryl Dawkins as a rookie with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1979-80 remembered the dunking legend as a reporters' delight for his entertaining postgame interviews.

Dawkins, who died at  58 on Thursday due to heart attack, would often give  shocking or entertaining statements that reporters could not help but clog the passageway to the locker room.

Spanarkel recalled that was the situation whether they won or lost, Yahoo Sports reported.

Dawkins would give his dunks such names as  "Rim Wrecker",  "Look Out Below," and "Yo-Mama" and would  often say he comes from his imaginary "Planet Lovetron."

Of course,  his powerful dunks that shattered two glass backboards in 1979 became very popular that blind Grammy Award winner  Stevie Wonder requested a meeting with Dawkins and gave the player his nickname  "Chocolate Thunder".

His dunks eventually changed the game as the NBA soon mandated the use of shatter-resistant backboards.

Dawkins played  for 14 years in the NBA, averaging 12 points, 6.1 assists and 1.4 blocks per game .

A 6-foot-11, 255-pound center, Dawkins was the first player taken directly from high school in the first round of the NBA draft when the Philadelphia 76ers selected him fifth overall pick in  1975.

Dawkins played for the  76ers for seven seasons before moving to the New Jersey Nets for five years. He showed action for a mere four games for the Utah Jazz in 1987-88 before transferring to the Detroit Pistons where he ended his career after the 1988-89 season.

After his NBA career, Dawkins played two seasons in the Italian league before suting up for the Harlem Globetrotters. He retired from basketball in 2000 after several coaching stints in the minor league and college levels.

Among those, The Morning Call noted, were the Lehigh Valley's Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs and the Lehigh Carbon Community College men's team.
