The Seahawks had an urgent need for a back up running back after Robert Turbin suffered a high ankle sprain in their third preseason game, reports ESPN.

The Seahawks immediately met with him Jackson on Tuesday morning. You're not going to find many backup running backs better than Jackson in the league this year.

The Bills decision to cut Jackson on Aug. 31 surprised many,  but general manager Doug Whaley wanted to free cap space and perceived Jackson as expendable.

The 34-year-old Jackson had a career-low 3.7 yards per carry  last season but compensated with a career high 66 catches.

Asked what he liked about Jackson, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said that the veteran running back is a very good pass-catcher, an adept pass protector, a good runner as well as having a great feel and sense for the game.

Jackson can also be described as "fresh" for a 34-year-old running back since he hasn't been subjected to the same amount of punishment Lynch endured in his career.

Jackson, who had a 40-yard run and a touchdown against the Steelers last week, will be used to spell Lynch in obvious assing situations.

By adding Jackson, the Seahawks do not have to rely so heavily on Lynch in this season, eventually keeping him fresher for the playoffs, according to Bleacher Report.

Jackson is expected to get lots of touches in his new team's run-heavy offense. His addition adds to a unit that also includes All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham and rookie Tyler Lockett, brought in through the team's offseason maneuvers.

Jackson's departure from the Bills was lamented by ex-teammates.

According to Bill safety Aaron Williams, everybody looked up to him and a favorite not only among teammates but also within the community.
