Over the years NASA has captured many interesting footage and now the space agency plans to offer it in 4K. NASA in partnership with Harmonic, a video delivery firm, plans to start a new service called NASA TV UHD.

Starting Nov. 1, NASA will use Harmonic as an outlet for its UHD content, according to PC Mag. This is the next iteration of digital television and it will come at four times the resolution of HD, according to the statement made by Robert Jacobs, deputy associate administrator for NASA's Office of Communications.

With a clip from the International Space Station (ISS) captured in 60fps, the American Space Agency already started posting 4K content to YouTube in June. However, NASA UHD TV content will come from new high-resolution videos and images generated on the ISS and other current missions, according to a NASA's Press Release.  Some historical events will also be available for viewers, re-mastered in the new 4K ultra-high definition standard.

The NASA TV UHD channel will bring the exploration journey to life in every home, as the agency reveals the unknown and reaches new heights, said Peter Alexander, chief marketing officer at Harmonic. He added that his company together with NASA will lead the adoption of this emerging technology.

Harmonic is also in negotiations with some pay TV operators for find partners to carry the channel on cable satellite and optical networks. The new service will start by streaming on the Internet.

In order to be able to take advantage of this UHD TV service the Internet users need a speed of at least 13 Mbps access connectivity. Among upcoming interesting events on NASA TV are included the coverage of the ISS spacewalk planned for Friday, Nov. 6.
