Health Benefits Of Laughter And Humor You Never Knew

Have you ever wondered why kids can stay so active throughout the day and sleep peacefully right after? It is simply because a kid demands very little from life -- having his or her life encircled with laughter, joy, humor and fun.

As we grow up, we tend to drift with the flow of our lives and start losing ourselves -- making laughter and humor gone with the wind, faded and least practiced.

A child laughs almost 300 times a day while an adult does it for only about 17 times in a day -- a great degree of difference, right? Laughter and humor help us deal with day-to-day problems of our lives and refine our relationships, mental and physical health.

Laughter can bind people as it has also been observed that people tend to laugh more when they are in groups.

Studies have also revealed that laughter and humor can cure many ailments. You cannot feel angry or sad when you try to loosen up with a loud guffaw. A good belly laugh for 10 minutes a day can be as good as a half-hour workout. Laughter can be a good work-out for heart, abdomen, face and back muscles for individuals who cannot perform physical exercise.

A good laughter can prevent one from heart attacks, according to a study at the University of Maryland Medical Center. An adult who laughs regularly can also have a normal blood pressure. A good bout of laughter reduces neuro-endocrine hormones such as epinephrine, cortisol, dopamine as well as the growth of such hormones that are associated with stress.

Researchers have also linked laughter with immune system as it can help to increase antibodies that fight infection-causing antigens.

Good laughter helps to keep the brain alert by activating both sides of brain and stimulates sharp memory and improves cognitive skills. Thus, it also aids in cleansing the lungs by emptying it out of more air than it takes and sends oxygen-enriched blood and nutrients in the body.

We become role model to our children but we often forget that a child too can teach us many things in life. We must learn that from our little ones as these kids find amusement even in the simplest things.

So, dare to take the challenge, one belly laugh a day will keep the doctor at bay. Laugh out loud!
