It was previously announced that "Guardians of the Galaxy" will be getting a sequel titled "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which will see the return of Chris Pratt's Star Lord and his band of intergalactic rogues. Now it seems that a new character will be making a screen debut.

According to a report by Deadline, actress Pom Kelementieff will be joining the cast of said film. Her role in the movie had been kept a secret, but rumors abound that she will be taking on the role of Mantis.

Mantis is a character that first appeared in Issue 122 of the "Avengers" comic book back in 1973, Screenrant reported. The character is described as a German-Vietnamese "psychic with martial arts skills," and a link to the Kree race. The character also has the ability to detect an opponent's weaknesses.

Furthermore, the character is said to have ties with the Avengers, but come 2007, Marvel featured her in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

In the comic book, Mantis is said to have a connection with Thanos, the intergalactic super villain who is hell-bent on taking on the Avengers. Sources say that since the villain will possibly appear in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," Mantis might as well show up.

In addition, there are speculations that the sequel will be focusing on "paternal relationships." Since Mantis has the same issues as Star Lord, many pointed out that she will play a key character in the film, further supporting claims that she will be in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will premiere on May 5,2017.
