Moviegoers can expect a self-contained story in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens according to its producer/director J.J. Abrams.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Abrams said that one does not need to be an avid follower of Star Wars in order to understand Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"We wanted to tell a story that had its own self-contained beginning, middle and end but at the same time, like A New Hope, implied a history that preceded it and also hinted at a future to follow," said Abrams.

"It is not about explaining everything away, not about introducing a certain number of toys for a corporation, not about trying to appease anyone."

Abrams is optimistic that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will offer something new to Star Wars fans.

According to the Empire Online, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens is definitely a movie to look forward to.

"The Force Awakens has this incredible advantage, not just of a passionate fan base but also of a back story that is familiar to a lot of people," Abrams averred. "We've been able to use what came before in a very organic way because we didn't have to reboot anything. We didn't have to come-up with a back story that would make sense. It's all there."

Abrams also revealed that there are new characters in the film who will add more meaning to Star Wars.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to hit the big screen starting December 2015.
