Luxury Swiss watch maker TAG Heuer today unveiled a $1,500 smartwatch called TAG Heuer Connected.

The smartwatch is built using the latest release of Android Wear, and has as many as 4,000 apps available at the Google Play store. It is also iOS compatible.

The case is 12.8 mm thick and is made of titanium, and the 46mm  sapphire crystal display screen is scratch resistant. It is preloaded with a built-in stopwatch, timer, and alarm. The battery is a 410mAh battery with a minimum 25 hours battery life, based on typical usage.

It also has a 1.6GHz Intel dual core processor (500mHz normal operation speed),1GB main memory (4GB storage memory), and its sensors include a gyroscope, tilt detection sensor, microphone, and haptic engine.

The smartwatch is modeled after the company's Carrera model, an auto racing watch that was first introduced in 1963. The case and buckle are designed and manufactured in Switzerland by the same team that makes the rest of TAG's watches, though the Connected Watch is not technically "Made in Switzerland" since the electronic brains are made by Intel.

The smartwatch also uses Bluetooth LE to connect to a smartphone, and has Wi-Fi connectivity. Although gyroscopic sensors are included for basic fitness tracking, it does not have a GPS, so users will still need a smartphone nearby. It also doesn't have a heart-rate sensor and a speaker - notifications come through vibrations.

Owners register directly with TAG Heuer and can access several features not available to owns of Huawei or LG watches, including special timing apps, and apps that can offer restaurant recommendations. TAG is expected to introduce watch faces designed with brand ambassadors, such as Tom Brady and Leonardo DiCaprio.
