New York Knicks' new summer acquisition, power forward Derrick Williams, is rumored to be on the trading block as this year's fourth overall draft pick Kristaps Porzingis is making waves so far in the Big Apple this season.

The 24-year-old Williams, who played for the Sacramento Kings last year averaging 8.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in almost 20 minutes of play per game, was signed by the Knicks in July as an unrestricted free agent, which means his trade restriction is set to expire on Dec. 15.

Williams showed some flashes of brilliance during New York's season-opening 122-97 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks last month, top-scoring the team with 24 points in 21 minutes, but he was slowly locked to the bench since then.

Sports World Report's Lauren Moranor noted that the steady rise of the team's 7-foot-3 Latvian rookie, Porzingis, had put at least two of his teammates, including Williams, "out of favor" in head coach Derek Fisher's rotation as of the moment.

The efficiency of starting center Robin Lopez and inspired plays from other forwards Lou Amundson and Kevin Seraphin also said to have relegated him further down the Knicks' depth chart.

Moranor said that because of his current team-friendly contract, Williams could be shipped out of the squad before the trade deadline, along with power forward Kyle O'Quinn, "if the Knicks need improvements elsewhere".

The only thing that is reportedly holding back the Knicks from dealing the two aforementioned players aside from their free agent trade restriction is they want to make sure Porzingis could consistently produce the numbers he is generating now.

In 17 games so far in his career, Porzingis is averaging 13.3 points with 41 percent field goal shooting, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in more than 27 minutes of playing time a night.

New York Daily News reported a hint of frustration coming from Williams as his DNP's had become frequent in the team's last few games.

"I want to get out there and play. That's the reason I'm here. I don't really know what happened, though," said Williams, referring to his DNP during their 100-91 loss to Orlando on Nov. 25.

"Like I said, you can't really control that. That's up to the coaching staff. At the same time, it does get frustrating when I know I can help. We have more games, man."

When Fisher was asked why he did not use Williams, the coach's simple reply was: "It just wasn't his opportunity".
