If City would be successful in luring Icardi to the Etihad after the New Year, then Manuel Pellegrini will have a pair of Argentine goal scorers leading his squad for the rest of the season to possibly win the English top flight trophy altogether.

Metro reported the Citizen's plans to bid for Icardi, saying that "City are also in need of additions up front" and the 22-year-old striker is said to be their number option at the moment.

With the departure of Edin Dzeko to Roma in the summer and Wilfried Bony having dismal performances as of late, netting just two goals in 11 appearances so far this season, Agüero had been left all alone in trying to carry City's scoring burden.

Agüero's recent struggles with a heel injury perhaps made Pellegrini realize that his team is too thin up front, and thus confirming his desire to add another scoring option up front for the Manchester squad.

Icardi is a popular transfer prospect these days as the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and even Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain were said to be interested in snagging him as soon as the winter transfer window opens.

TalkSport noted that Inter would really "want to keep" their skipper and team leader, but because the club cannot provide him a Champions League appearance, I Nerazzurri may allow him to leave to fulfill his football ambitions.

The Rosario, Argentina native had a superb stint for Roberto Mancini last season, scoring 22 goals in 36 appearances in the Italian top flight.

However, he is currently struggling with a "significant dip in form this season", netting only four goals in 12 games so far for Internazionale.
