Golf News: Liang Wenchong of China is the New Vice-Captain of Asia for Eurasia Cup

(Photo : gettyimages.com) China's Liang Wenchong has been named Vice-Captain of Team Asia for the EurAsia Cup.

Former Asia No.1 Liang Wenchong of China has been appointed by seasoned Indian professional golfer Jeev Milkha Singh as his vice-captain for the upcoming EurAsia Cup to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from January 15 to 17, 2016.

The Indian ace Singh clearly trusts the top ranked Chinese golfer's ability and talent. The captain of Team Asia believes that the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour winner will bring strong support to him and the 12 playing members when they face Team Europe which is led by the Irish Darren Clarked in the Ryder Cup-styled event. Singh has stated that Liang will certainly add value to their team set-up.

"Liang has always been known for his fighting qualities and never-say-die attitude on the golf course and I'm hoping this will positively impact Team Asia in our goal to win the EurAsia Cup. I believe we now have the ideal team make-up to achieve this goal." Singh said.

 In 2007, Liang became China's first Asian Tour Order of Merit champion and his resume has three career Asian Tour titles. The top Chinese player bagged his first tournament on the Japan Golf Tour this season.

Liang is said to be feeling honored for the appointment and very thankful to Captain Jeev Singh for the trust and confidence in him. He has vowed to contribute as much as he can to the team and believes that Team Asia will be the victors of the tournament.

There will be 24 matches to be featured in the EurAsia Cup. The sports event will present six Fourball matches in the first day to be followed by six Foursomes matches and 12 Singles matches on day three.

A whooping $3.6 million will be the prize money for the winning team, while $1.2 million will be for the runners-up.
