Chinese tech giant Lenovo has introduced the Think Pad X1 tablet at the CES event this month. The device cannot only be used like a tablet, but also like a laptop, a projector and a 3D camera.

The device sports a 12-inch display screen and is armed with Intel Core m7 chip set. There is a possibility of attaching three external modules to the bottom of the Think Pad X1 to transform it into either a laptop, projector, or a 3D camera.

These modules look like little battery packs, and the laptop module will actually extend battery life of the device. An additional five hours will be added to the battery life of the device when connected to these modules.

The presenter module will include a Pico projector, which will be used to project a 60 inch display from the Think Pad X1. The final module will combine Intel's Real Sense camera and capture and edit the objects for 3D printing. However, the 3D camera, which will be at the bottom of the Think Pad X1, will limit the device to just capturing the objects, rather than doubling as a webcam.

The most obvious problem with these modules is that they are really tricky and awkward to use. Users will need to to peel off a case which covers the ports of the connectors, and then attach the modules. This further involves opening a few latches to ensure that they will attach securely. It is a little too hard and a lot messy for a conventional user.
