Chinese company Meizu Technology Co., Ltd. is preparing to announce a new smartphone called the Meizu MX6 sometime this year as a successor to the Meizu MX5 handset that was launched in China last year.

The Meizu MX6 is expected to pack MediaTek's latest Helio X20 deca-core processor (2x 2.5GHz cortex-A72, 4x 2.0GHz cortex-A53, 4x 1.4GHz cortex-A53), along with a Mali T880 MP4 graphics processing unit, according to AnTuTu's database.

MediaTek officially unveiled its Helio X20 chipset back in May last year. This processor is expected to take on the likes of Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 820, Huawei's HiliSilicon Kirin 950, and Samsung's very own Exynos 8890.

The first device to pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset is LeTV's Le Max Pro, which was unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 in Las Vegas.

On the other hand, Huawei's latest Mate 8 smartphone packs the HiliSilicon Kirin 950 under its hood, while Samsung's much awaited Galaxy S7 is expected to come with the Exynos 8890.

In addition to the Helio X20, the Meizu MX6 is rumored to sport a 1080p display screen and will come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in memory storage. The phone will run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system along with Meizu's Flyme UI on top.

As of this time, there's no word on the rest of the phone's specs and features.

In comparison with its predecessor, the Meizu MX5 sports a 5.5-inch screen with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, and comes with MediaTek's MT6795 Helio X10 octa-core chipset, PowerVR G6200 GPU, 3GB of RAM, up to 64GB of internal memory, and a 3,150 mAh battery.
