The 30-year-old Congolese professional footballer began his career in Berlin with SV Norden Nordwest 1898, before moving to the Bundesliga side SV Tasmania-Gropiusstadt 73. He was scouted by Hertha BSC, where he played for the reserve team in 2004.

After a three-year spell with the Hertha, the Congolese international initially signed a one-year contract with FC Hansa Rostock, where he played for the reserves during his first year, before being promoted to the first team in 2008.

He also played with Jena-based outfit FC Carl Zeiss Jena until 2010 before announcing his departure and signing for Fortuna Dusseldorf on a two-year contract.

Meanwhile, Thwaite, 32, began his football career at Sydney University in the New South Wales Winter Super League.  In 2002, he played for the Marconi stallions, an Australian semi-professional football club that is a member of National Premier Leagues NSW 2.  He spent two seasons with the Stallions.

Following his spell with the Stallions, he signed to Polish professional football club Wisla Krakow on a Bosman transfer from Romanian football club National Bucharest.

In 2008, the Australian football player signed for the SK Brann, a Norwegian football club. Thwaite was loaned to Melbourne Victory of the A-League, Australia's primary football competition.

Thwaite was part of the Australian under-20s squad in the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship that was held in the United Arab Emirates. He was also a member of the Australian national team that qualified for the 2014 World Cup.

The Chinese club is yet disclosed the details of the contract with both players, however, experts  believes that Assani and Thwaite will fortify the team's defense.
