At least two people have been confirmed dead while four others were missing in a landslide that occurred Monday dawn in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, authorities said.

The landslide also destroyed a two-story building in Fude village, according to local sources, although actual damage has not been assessed as of this reporting.

The official Xinhua news agency said the incident occurred at 3:25 a.m. Monday, with the cause of the landslide still being investigated considering that it was not raining before the accident happened.

Emergency personnel from Du'an Yao Autonomous County immediately rushed to the landslide site to rescue those who were trapped in the landslide.

Two persons were found dead on the scene while rescuers are still scrambling to look for four people who remain missing as of this posting. The four people are believed to be still trapped in the rubbles, sources said.

The accident occurred as China greeted the Chinese New Year of the Fire Monkey.

Landslides are not something unusual in China. The latest landslide of a big magnitude was the one that took place in Shenzhen.

At least 78 people were confirmed dead in the Shenzhen landslide, which was caused by a mountain of construction waste that collapsed. Authorities said the accident was a result of work safety mismanagement rather than geological causes.

The Chinese government has since shut down the business of the company that operates the landfill and charged those who were deemed responsible for the incident.

The Shenzhen landslide also covered several buildings and business establishments.
