Rumors have emerged that English Premier League giants Manchester United FC is close to pulling off a £70 million transfer deal for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

The Daily Star reported that the Red Devils are closing in on the big-money move for the hotshot goalscorer even as there are "serious doubts" over the status of its current manager Louis van Gaal in the Old Trafford next season.

Aubameyang has certainly caught the attention of many top-notch European clubs this season with his impressive goal scoring haul, which stands at 30 goals in 31 games for BVB in all competitions.

The 6-foot-2 Laval, France native is currently the second highest scorer in the Bundesliga with 20 goals in 20 appearances so far for Die Borussen, only one goal behind top-scorer Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.

Aubameyang could still snatch the acclaim away from Lewandowski as he continues to be in form for Thomas Tuchel's side this season.

Meanwhile, Caught Offside claimed that United's top officials realize that the 26-year-old Gabonese is a more realistic target to acquire this summer to improve their attacking options than the likes of Real Madrid's Gareth Bale or Barcelona's Neymar, who both commands mind-boggling transfer fees for their services.

Another top Premier League club, Arsenal FC, has reportedly made a £44.6 million bid for the Gabon international during the mid-season transfer window, but it was rejected by Dortmund.

Aside from Man United and the Gunners, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in acquiring Aubameyang in the summer.

The French-born, Gabonese forward began his senior career with Italian club AC Milan in 2008 as he had come from the said club's youth program. He was sent on loan to French teams Dijon, Lille, Monaco, and Saint-Etienne in the following years up to 2011 before his loan spell with Les Verts was made permanent in December of 2011.

In July 2013, Aubameyang was signed by Borussia Dortmund to a five-year contract at an undisclosed fee.
