Doan's role is quite opposite from her previous roles as Mulan in the Disney Descendants TV series.

The introduction of a new character of a different race in the hit TV series has led some fans to question whether the writers of the script are not veering too far from history.

Doan said that it was possible the Vikings had contact with Asian people as they were known conquerors, reaching as far as the East. The 25-year-old actress added the Michael Hirst, the writer and creator of the historical TV series, does his research properly as well.

Hirst, 63, consulted with a historian and revealed that it was indeed possible that people of a different origin would be captured by pirates in the Red Sea and eventually end up in Scandinavia.

"I was just shocked, really, about how much time and effort they put into everything," said Doan, who revealed that she has a good time filming the TV series.

Doan added that she was amazed by the 'meticulous details and lavish costumes', describing the battles as something with a 'great deal of vulnerability'.

Initially, the actress said that she found the battle scenes gruesome, but gradually adjusted to it.

Doan revealed that this is her first breakout role in a dark period drama.

The fourth season of Viking is begin airing on February 19 on the History Channel.
