Oppo Introduces 'SmartSensor' Optical Image Stabilizer for Smartphones

Chinese Company Oppo Claimed to Sold 50 Million Smartphones In 2015

(Photo : YouTube) Oppo has announced that it sold 50 million smartphones in 2015.

Chinese smartphone maker OPPO Electronics is taking smartphone photographic technology to a whole new level after introducing its "SmartSensor" optical image stabilizer during the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 event in Barcelona, Spain.

OPPO's SmartSensor is the first and smallest sensor-based optical image stabilization technology in the world. The Chinese company decided to develop this technology in order to address the current issue of image stabilization.

Most smartphones today use lens-based image stabilizers, which have the ability to improve image quality by amending vibrations on the pitch and yaw axes, but not on the roll axis.

According to OPPO, most vibrations actually take place on the roll axis. SmartSensor was designed to solve this issue by correcting vibrations on all three axes in just 15 milliseconds, enabling smartphone users to capture very clear and smooth images.

The company claims that SmartSensor also reduces power consumption (fifty times less than lens-based systems), and has a stabilization precision of 0.3 micrometers. OPPO said, "One pixel is about 1 micrometer, which means that SmartSensor makes precise adjustments at scales of less than a third of a pixel,"

"This is the first pixel-level image stabilization technology for smartphones in the world!" OPPO added.

Other technologies that will also improve image quality include dual-lens camera. According to a research report by Morgan Stanley, smartphone manufacturers such as Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and Apple Inc. could begin adopting dual cameras this year.

On the other hand, Huawei recently announced that it has partnered with German camera manufacturer Leica Camera to improve smartphone photography.
