Bodies of Four Men Found near South Florida Coast, Cause of Death Uncertain

The Coast Guard will continue to search the waters off South Florida, after four dead people were found on Sunday near Hollywood Beach.

Earlier in the day, Coast Guard Secror Miami received a call about two male bodies turning up about 20 miles off the coast.

The Coast Guard immediately responded, recovered the bodies, and found two other male bodies later off the coast.

The responding crew immediately sent out an alarm, and air crews and a Coast Guard cutter went into action to participate in the search.

According to Petty Officer Mark Barney, their main concern now is to ensure that no one else is out there in distress that is in need of their help. The search started in Sunday morning and was to continue into the night.

Barney added that a Coast Guard spotter plane reported three more bodies in the vicinity where the victims were found. Crews were still searching the area to confirm if those were indeed dead bodies or just debris.

Officers suspect that the victims may have brought a vessel with them, but found none within the area of the search.

The victims have not been identified. Authorities are also checking if these victims could be migrants whose boat could have sunk in the water.

Barney also said no one reported an accident in the area, nor did Coast Guard units ever receive a distress call. The bodies were decomposing and could been in the water for a few days before they were found.

Local law enforcement agents are now coordinating with Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin and air crews in the search for other possible victims..
